2020 Roundup: Best of Blogs

It's time to showcase the best blogs of 2020!

This past year has been full of twists and turns, but we haven't stopped working with our customers and creating new courses to actively address the events of 2020. We hope you enjoy our recap of Vector Solutions' top 6 blogs of the year!

#1) Implicit Bias and Microaggressions Awareness on Campus

Implicit bias refers to the beliefs and attitudes that affect our understanding, actions and decisions in an unconscious way. Media in 2020 has highlighted the importance of recognizing Implicit Bias and how it can affect us and those surrounding us in our communities. Ignoring these biases, can limit us in our relationships, careers, and beyond. It can lead to the creation or support of many different types of stereotypes.

Microaggressions are subtle comments or actions that unconsciously show prejudice against marginalized communities and they can be a result of Implicit Biases. Anyone, even those in marginalized groups, can show implicit bias, which makes it extremely important for every individual to be aware of the pervasiveness of implicit bias.

#2) The Department of Education Releases New Title IX Regulations

On May 6, 2020, the Department of Education (DOE) published its unofficial version of the new Title IX regulations with the goal of "strengthening Title IX protections for survivors of sexual misconduct and to restore due process in campus proceedings to ensure all students can pursue an education free from sex discrimination" (DOE Press Release).

These new regulations must be in effect by August 14, 2020 or institutions may lose federal funding.

#4) How Your Campus Community Can Help You Prevent Serious Safety and Security Incidents

It's very common to feel safe among fellow students and staff at educational institutions but the reality is, these types of institutions can be targeted by active assailants. Vector Solutions has partnered with LiveSafe to help individuals at educational institutions to feel more secure and safe.

#5) Ensuring ADA Compliance Campus-Wide

The Americans with Disabilities Act has been around for some time but at Vector Solutions, we are working to ensure that all campus members are aware and have the same opportunities as others.

Signed into law in 1990, the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) prohibits discrimination against people with disabilities in all areas of public life so they can enjoy the same rights and opportunities as others. Colleges and universities taking federal funds must make all of their operations accessible to people with disabilities. In this blog post, we go through in detail, how to ensure a non-discriminatory campus.

#6) 95% of Students Don't Report Hazing

Hazing has been in the national spotlight the past few years, yet the practice hasn't stopped and has cost more than just negative attention and fines to universities and colleges.

Many students walk onto campus and join different social groups. Sometimes these groups have initiation practices that can be very dangerous and illegal. So many students witness hazing and don't report it. There are ways to prevent and reduce hazing on your campus. Read our blog post to learn how to take necessary action.
