NFPA 1010 Compliance Is Coming; Vector’s Revamped Online Training Series Is Ready

For more than 125 years, the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) has developed codes and standards that fire departments rely on for expert guidance to stay safe and effective in the field.

NFPA Consolidates Standards for a Unified Experience

NFPA 1001: Standard for Fire Fighter Professional Qualifications has long defined minimum job requirements (JPRs) for Fire Fighter I and II. In 2024, NFPA consolidated NFPA 1001, along with NFPA 1002 for Driver/Operator, and 1003 for Airport Fire Fighter, into a single, comprehensive standard.

The new, consolidated NFPA 1010: Standard for Fire Service Professional Qualifications helps streamline and align qualifications across fire service roles, reduce redundancy between related standards, and simplify agency adoption and compliance.

While NFPA 1010 maintains the core JPRs from NFPA 1001, it organizes them alongside other fire service roles for consistency and ease of use.

Preparing for NFPA 1010

Although NFPA standards for firefighters do not set compliance deadlines, most agencies are expected to follow the new NFPA 1010 standard in 2026, and IFSAC-accredited bodies are anticipated to fully align in 2027.
