In honor of Women’s History Month, celebrated throughout the month of March, we spoke to a few of our incredible women leaders here at Vector Solutions, getting their thoughts on women in the workplace, leadership skills and styles, and what kind of advice they have for the next generation of women leaders.
Meet Tracey Perez, Vector’s Senior Director of Customer Support. Tracey joined Vector in 2019 and plays an integral role in Vector’s Customer Support Department.
Question: Have you drawn professional inspiration from other women or do you have a woman leader as a mentor? Tell us about someone who has inspired you.
Answer: Early in my career when I first started out as a manager, I was blessed to have an excellent mentor. She saw something in me that I didn’t see in myself. She took me under her wing and taught me everything she knew. She provided constructive criticism and celebrated my successes. She pushed me hard, but most importantly, she believed in me and my abilities.
Question: What is one thing you know now about women and work you wish you had known earlier in your career?
Answer: It’s ok to have a home/work life balance.
Question: What advice would you give to the next generation of female leaders?
Answer: Don’t be afraid to seek out and interview different Women in Leadership to be your mentor. Think about what’s important to you to have in a mentor and remember that it is okay to be picky when selecting your mentor.
Question: How have you built confidence and/or resiliency over the course of your career?
Answer: I have to say that my resilience is due to my strong faith in Jesus. When my confidence gets low, I take a moment to remind myself of one of my favorite scriptures, Jeremiah 29:11 - “For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you a hope and a future.” This is what has kept me grounded through the course of my career.
Question: What do you do to unwind or relax after a long day?
Answer: I cuddle up with my hubby and my dog.
