Dominion Energy: Heat Safety
Resources

The Customer

Dominion Energy is a Fortune 500 power and energy company headquartered in Richmond, Virginia. It services nearly 7.5 million customers in 18 states and has over 20,000 employees.

The Situation

As we enter the summer months and outdoor temperatures increase, many workers face increased risks of heat-related disruptions. This can include heat stroke, dehydration, sunburns, and more. Maintaining heat safety is a particularly important consideration for employees who work outside, such as those completing repairs in the field or visiting customer homes. To ensure ongoing safety, Dominion Energy wanted to remind employees of these considerations so that they would remain safe as they worked throughout the summer.

The Solution

Dominion used LiveSafe’s Broadcast functionality to remind its workforce of heat-related considerations. They sent a mass notification informing employees that temperatures were approaching 90 degrees and provided relevant tips for maintaining safety, such as remaining hydrated, avoiding caffeine, applying sunscreen, and taking regular breaks.

The Result

LiveSafe’s mass notification functionality enabled Dominion to rapidly and reliably inform employees of heat-related safety tips. This served to improve employee awareness of and response to emerging risks and demonstrated Dominion’s commitment to safe work practices.

"Working in hotter temperatures significantly increases occupational risk. Research has shown that it causes approximately 20,000 additional worker injuries per year in California alone."
