2021 International Building Code & More: About the Codes
Many different codes and standards regulate the design and construction of buildings. Each jurisdiction decides which ones it will adopt. Once a code or standard is adopted, it becomes law and will be enforced within that jurisdiction. Because each jurisdiction acts independently, no two code jurisdictions will have exactly the same codes and standards requirements. Federal regulations also apply to certain types of projects in all jurisdictions. The International Code Council’s I-Codes and the National Fire Protection Association’s C3-Codes are used throughout the United States and in some other countries. The ICC and NFPA codes that pertain to interior projects are discussed in this course. Obtaining a firm foundation of the codes, standards, and regulations related to your area of work can save you the time, effort, and fees that can result from not following the ones that apply to your project.
