This course is about how students can contribute to and get the most out of their educational experience and in any diverse community where they choose to live, learn and work. We'll cover baseline definitions like “diversity,” “stereotype” and “microaggressions” as well as concepts like anticipating impact, using up-to-date and inclusive identity terms and ways to stop microaggressions. Hazing is a dangerous ritual that occurs at institutions and organizations across the country. While certain activities that groups and clubs use to initiate members may seem innocuous, these behaviors can often escalate, creating harassing and sometimes violent and deadly criminal acts. This course gives students a better understanding of hazing, allowing them to identify hazing on college campuses and when it’s happening and possibly prevent incidents in the future.

College students have to take ownership over things like staying physically well, developing meaningful relationships, and living or working in an environment that they enjoy. Academics, clubs, student organizations, and other activities provide important opportunities to grow and change, but they come with unique challenges as well. This course will define mental well-being, examine the unique challenges that clubs and organizations can create in college life, and provide strategies for maintaining mental well-being and seeking help if and when necessary.
