Cardiac Emergencies
More than 600,000 patients die each year from cardiovascular diseases, with half of these deaths occurring before patients reach the hospital. This interactive online course covers the assessment and emergency medical care for patients experiencing various cardiac conditions, including angina pectoris, myocardial infarction, heart failure, cardiac tamponade, hypertensive emergency, and cardiogenic shock. The course teaches healthcare providers how to identify major structures of the cardiovascular system, function in organized “pit crew” style cardiac arrest resuscitation efforts, and properly use automated external defibrillators (AEDs). Additionally, students will learn about pharmacological interventions used by ALS providers, inclusion criteria for termination of resuscitation efforts, and proper communication protocols with medical direction.

Frequently Asked Questions
What operational challenges does this course address?
This course addresses cardiac assessment, ECG/AED use, chest pain evaluation, rhythm recognition, resuscitation decisions, and post-event care priorities related to Cardiac Emergencies. More than 600,000 patients die each year from cardiovascular diseases, with half of these deaths occurring before patients reach the hospital.
What real-world situations or incidents is this training designed to prepare personnel for?
The training is designed to prepare personnel for cardiac arrest, acute coronary syndromes, chest pain, arrhythmias, and resuscitation scenarios that require rapid EMS action associated with Cardiac Emergencies. More than 600,000 patients die each year from cardiovascular diseases, with half of these deaths occurring before patients reach the hospital.
What safety or compliance concerns does this course help organizations address?
This course helps organizations address resuscitation protocols, AED/ECG process consistency, documentation quality, medication safety, and patient outcome risk tied to Cardiac Emergencies. It supports stronger awareness, more consistent practices, and better day-to-day decision-making in prehospital care.
Which personnel or departments would benefit most from this training?
This training is most relevant for EMTs, first responders, AEMTs, and paramedics across both basic and advanced certification levels, as well as EMS educators and clinical leaders, managing cardiac and cardiovascular emergencies, along with EMS agencies seeking to strengthen knowledge, consistency, and role-specific readiness connected to Cardiac Emergencies.
How can this course support department readiness, consistency, or professional development?
This course can support EMS readiness and professional development by supporting cardiac-care consistency, improving confidence with time-sensitive decisions, and reinforcing resuscitation readiness related to Cardiac Emergencies.
How does this course fit into a broader training program?
This course fits well within a broader training program focused on cardiac care, ECG and AED readiness, resuscitation training, and cardiovascular emergency response. It can be used to support onboarding, refresher training, continuing education, and more consistent performance across EMS teams.
