Digital Citizenship for Secondary Teachers

We all have a responsibility to help students learn how to function as positive, contributing members of society. Now this education simply extends to online behaviors. Digital citizenship refers to the continuously developing norms of appropriate, responsible and empowered technology use. It must be explicitly taught, and that instruction has to be consistently reinforced over time. This course is designed to give teachers an overview of digital citizenship, which allows students to leverage technology without distracting from their academic goals. Topics covered include what it means to be a safe, savvy and social digital citizen; why digital literacy is a vital part of secondary education; and how teachers can model good digital citizenship for their students.
