Gang Awareness

The presence of gangs in our schools and communities is an unfortunate reality. Gang activity – and the fear it causes – harms the learning environment. This course is designed to provide school staff members with basic information about gang culture, ideology and behavior, as well as the role staff play to build a safe school environment. Topics covered include the nature of a gang and why young people join; how to identify gang members in school; and what actions to take to increase safety on school grounds.
