Use of Steel in Design & Construction

This 1-hour interactive online course discusses the use of steel in design and construction, with the primary focus of the design segment relating to design of buildings, and not entailing design of the myriad of other things in modern society that are made from steel. We will start with a look at the methods of manufacturing various types of steel. The resultant physical characteristics of different types of steel will be examined to understand those applications where the use of different steel is recommended. Techniques for proper use and erection of steel in buildings will be discussed, in conjunction with design considerations.

Mr. Turner graduated from the University of Chattanooga with a B.A. in Psychology. He has worked in the construction industry since 1957 when he began working part-time with his father. Later, he started his own company, and was licensed as a Florida state certified residential contractor in 1987. He is also a Florida state certified roofing contractor. Both licenses are current. Through the years, he has worked on construction projects in Florida, South Carolina, and in various parts of the Caribbean, including St. Croix and St. Thomas. When Florida instituted the continuing education requirements for contractors, he became a provider, teaching continuing education courses. The courses have been well received by contractors.
