The 50th Anniversary of Title IX

The 50th Anniversary of Title IX
Resources

On June 23, we recognize the 50th anniversary of Title IX, the landmark civil rights law that prohibits discrimination based on sex, sexual orientation, and gender identity at educational institutions that receive federal dollars.

Originally drafted to challenge the status quo for women in sports, Title IX now applies to all forms of sexual violence, including sexual harassment and assault, dating and domestic violence, and stalking.

This law has fundamentally changed how higher education institutions and organizations respond to reports of sexual violence and ensures they take active steps to prevent it.
