Asthma Advanced Critical Concepts (1 Hour) | *NEW*

Asthma Advanced Clinical Concepts online training

Asthma affects over 25 million people in the US, including over 5 million children. The CDC reports over 178,000 asthma-related hospital admissions and 1.6 million emergency department visits in 2018. In 2019, asthma contributed to the death of 3,524 people. Using the ABCs (airway, breathing, circulation) to identify life threats is a critical component of every patient encounter. Asthma endangers the airway and inhibits the patient's ability to breathe. Prompt recognition and appropriate treatment on the part of the EMS provider are vital.

By the end of this self-paced online training course, you will be able to:

  • Define asthma
  • Identify affected anatomy and pathophysiology
  • Recognize asthma symptoms
  • Describe assessment strategies
  • Determine proper treatment for an asthma attack
  • Identify steps for transporting

EMS Slips, Trips, and Falls (1 Hour) | Updated

EMS Slips, Trips, and Falls online training course

Emergency care is a physically demanding job that comes with the risk of the EMS provider sustaining injuries from mild to severe and even fatal.

This course aims to provide an updated understanding of EMS service-related risks and injuries surrounding slips, trips, and falls for today’s rescuers. Slips, trips, and falls may be as insignificant as a bruise or an abrasion or as serious as loss of work and/or death. It’s not unrealistic in EMS for a fall to result in neurological impairment, traumatic brain injury, spinal cord injury, and as mentioned prior, death. A fall, or other serious injuries, also causes undue stress to an already very stressful occupation and affects morale.

This course’s base of knowledge is designed to find its way into the operative best practices for all EMS personnel. Upon completion, you will be more fully versed in all the important nuances of the dangers surrounding slips, trips, and falls in EMS.

By the end of this self-paced online training course, you will be able to:

  • Discuss terms and acronyms relevant to the topics of slips, trips, and falls
  • Recall statistics related to slips, trips, and falls in the nature of the EMS environment
  • Relate and employ best practices to reduce the risk of work-related accidents
  • Analyze different factors related to individual causes surrounding slip, trip, and fall risk
  • Identify obstacles, causes, and hazards in environments that increase chances of slips, trips, and falls
  • Explain the different slip, trip, and fall injury levels, and list findings related to the different injury levels
  • Explain how to react when faced with a fallen colleague
