Business partners are indicating the most sought-after life skills for our students are SEL-based. Starting these conversations and exposure in kindergarten is vital to ensure students acquire the necessary skills for lifelong success and productive citizenship. Administrators will gain research-based ideas and activities to implement immediately at the district and school-wide levels.

Learning Objectives

By the end of this webinar, attendees will:

  • Understand the connection and importance between SEL and college and career readiness based on research and stakeholder input.
  • Learn easy-to-implement research-based activities, ideas, project-based learning, and stakeholder collaborations to implement college and career readiness based on SEL within a school or district.
  • Sample developmental frameworks will be modeled off how to build vertical alignment within a school or district for SEL-based college and career readiness.

Presenters

Heather Bushelman

MTSS Coordinator, Boone County Schools

Heather has been in education for 21 years, with sixteen of that time spent as a school counselor.  Most recently, she served as the Kentucky Department of Education’s Coordinator for Comprehensive School Counseling.  As President of the Kentucky School Counselor Association, she advocates for school counseling around the state and nation.  She was also honored to have been named the 2022 Kentucky School Counselor of the Year.  Heather has presented nationally for conferences in Georgia, Nevada, Florida, California, Tennessee, and Texas on topics including SEL Implementation within MTSS, Trauma-informed practices, building a comprehensive school counseling program, and college and career readiness.  Her current role is serving as the MTSS Coordinator for the third largest district in Kentucky, Boone County Schools.
