Mental Health for Emergency Responders

Television and movies have portrayed police, fire fighters, and EMS providers as living a life full of adrenaline rushes. They are shown responding to massive chaotic scenes where things are exploding, there are mass casualties, and triaging needs to be done on a regular basis. Media has portrayed this career as one where you’re always driving fast, with lights and sirens blaring, through ridiculous traffic hazards, and being a HERO to everyone. TV shows like ER, Chicago Fire, 911, and more, all portray every call as being a life saving event and heroic. That is NOT what this career is all about.
