Stay Safe and Informed: National Safety Month Roundup and Training Highlights

National Safety Month, an annual effort by the National Safety Council (NSC) to promote safety awareness, is in full swing! To assist your organization in ongoing promotion of workplace safety, we’ve gathered essential safety knowledge insights as well as a range of online training courses that Vector Solutions has released this year that your organization can leverage to support ongoing workplace safety and health efforts at your organization.

Emergency Preparedness

This year, the first theme of National Safety Month focuses on preparing employees to respond safely and appropriately to workplace emergencies. Vector Solutions has released new courses that provide workers with guidance on how to develop an emergency action plan and a fire prevention plan that may be implemented in your facilities so you can be ready if disaster strikes. Just a few of our latest courses cover how to administer first aid appropriately for a range of injuries and illnesses that may occur within the workplace and ensure employees can identify when it’s appropriate to summon emergency medical assistance

Fall Prevention and Protection

Week two of National Safety Month is all about raising awareness about slip, trip, and fall risks in the workplace.

According to data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics just over one-third of workplace fatalities in the construction industry are due to falls, slips, and trips.

Vector Solutions’ new fall protection training covers numerous methods of prevention and protection including fall arrest systems, vertical and horizontal lifelines, as well as guidelines for inspection and maintenance of fall protection equipment. The course also discusses the proper procedures for putting on a body harness, lifeline swing hazards, and more, to arm employees with the knowledge they need to work safely at heights.

Fall Prevention is just one topic that’s covered within our recently created construction safety training series. This series was developed to provide workers with the knowledge they need to work safely and without incident in many types of environments at a building site; to properly use tools, protective equipment, and handle materials; and recognize some of the most common jobsite hazards to strengthen their safety awareness and complete tasks efficiently.

Other courses from Vector’s Construction Worksite Safety Training series include:

Heat Stress and Working in Extreme Temperatures

The third theme of National Safety Month this year is heat stress. Millions of workers in the United States are exposed to heat in their workplaces. Although illness from exposure to heat is preventable, every year, thousands become sick from occupational heat exposure, and some cases are fatal. Our latest course on Heat Stress Symptoms and Prevention was created to educate employees to recognize each symptom and condition of heat-related illnesses, and to know which ones require simple corrective actions, like taking a break, and which ones may require a trip to the hospital.

Hazard Recognition

Good safety training teaches employees how to identify potential hazards within the workplace and encourages them to report unsafe conditions or near misses to prevent accidents before they can occur.

Vector Solutions offers a wide range of training topics to help employees identify many common hazardous situations they might encounter while on the job, from spotting a missing machine guard on a piece of equipment, noticing a forklift in use that has an unbalanced load, catching chemical hazards, or observing an employee carrying heavy boxes without using proper lifting techniques. Our training makes it easy to educate employees about potential hazards, risks, and safe work practices specific to their job roles.

We have a wide range of new and recently released training topics covering how to work safely with hazardous materials and equipment, including:

Hazardous Materials Training

Ergonomics Training
