Common Myths About Active Assailant Events (Grades 6-8)
The past few years, we’ve become all too familiar with tragedies at schools. And the fact that graphic videos and stories are shared all over the news and social media can really change how we think about safety at school. Unfortunately, this information is often frightening and can stress us out, which can reduce our ability to respond to danger. This module provides middle school students with an overview of the common myths about active assailant events at school. Key topics include: how to view data and statistics, the element of bias, the effects of inaccurate information along with how to respond to it, and others.
