Early Childhood: Managing and Reducing Challenging Behavior

For teachers and staff working in early childhood environments, managing student behavior is part of the job. While challenging behaviors are to be expected in young children, they can adversely affect a child’s development and well-being if allowed to continue unchecked. This course provides teachers and staff with practical strategies to address challenging behaviors. These strategies draw from applied behavior analysis to offer solutions that eliminate the environment that leads to challenging behaviors (antecedent strategies), replace the function of the challenging behaviors (behavior strategies), and use reinforcement or punishment to encourage new behavior or discourage challenging behaviors (consequence strategies).
