Recognizing and Responding to Students in Distress

College is a time of great transition for the young adults on campus. They’re beginning to spread their wings, making decisions for themselves that will impact the rest of their lives. It’s no surprise, then, that students may also experience severe distress during their college careers. As they navigate conflicts and pressures in their lives both in and out of the classroom, students rely on faculty and staff to provide foundational supports. To do this, we need to be able to recognize and respond to signs of distress in our students.
