This course will help school staff members working with students with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) better understand and implement the structured teaching best practices of using structured tasks and activities. Building on the foundation set through the use of individualized visual daily schedules, organized physical environments and work systems, we’ll discuss how structured tasks and activities support increased independence and greater accessibility and engagement for your students. In doing so, we’ll explain methods to contain and organize tasks and activities, strategies to better engage students in their assignments, ways to instruct that help students rely on their own abilities and how to restructure activities and tasks for individual students.
