Prevention is More Than “Just Say No:” Building Refusal Skills, Decision-Making Skills, and Critical Thinking Skills

Industry:

K12

Solution:

PreventionSafetyStudent Training

One of the most crucial parts of prevention is skill building! Over the years, we have learned that telling our youth to “just say no” is not effective. By building refusal skills with other students, we can give them an opportunity to practice what they might say if they need to refuse drugs or other substances. Equipping students with these important skills empowers them to face real-life situations.

During this hour-long webinar, presenters Christi Valentini-Lackner and Ryley Jones will explore what effective youth-led prevention means, how you can implement it in your schools, and why skill-building is so critical when implementing prevention strategies in our schools and communities!

Presenters will share tools, resources, and examples of evidence-based strategies you can use to help develop your youth’s refusal skills, decision-making skills, and critical thinking skills.

Learning Objectives

Participants will be able to:

  • Define evidence-based youth-led prevention.
  • Explain the importance of skill building in alcohol, vaping, and other drug prevention.
  • Gain strategies and resources to equip students with the newest evidenced-based coping skills, critical thinking skills, and decision-making skills.
