Key Questions

When driving in inclement weather, how should you reduce your speed?
Depending on the size of your vehicle, you should reduce your speed by 1/3 on wet roads and by 1/2 on snow-covered roads.

What is space management?
Knowing how fast you are traveling, being aware of the space around your vehicle, anticipating other road users’ actions, and adjusting your lane position and speed accordingly is called space management.

How much space should you have between your vehicle and the vehicle in front of you?
Always leave at least 3 seconds between your vehicle and the vehicle in front of you. If you are driving a larger vehicle, such as a truck, you will need extra space. You should have at least 1 second for every 10 feet of your vehicle, plus another second if traveling over 40 miles per hour.
