Explore how Plastipak Packaging, a global rigid plastic manufacturing and recycling company, standardized training processes and closed critical skills gaps with Vector’s Learning Management System (LMS) and training content.
In this testimonial, Mary Gowan, Global Corporate Learning Director, explains how her team transitioned from manual tools like Excel and access databases to a centralized, scalable solution. This transformation enabled Plastipak to mass upload training data, significantly reducing time spent on data collection and recordkeeping while standardizing training paths across sites to enhance efficiency and collaboration.
By leveraging Vector’s specialized content libraries, including industrial maintenance training, Plastipak bridged skills gaps and implemented standardized training across sites on technical topics that would have been costly and time-intensive to develop in-house.

My name is Mary Gowan. I’m with Plastipak Packaging based out of Michigan. We are a global rigid plastic manufacturing company and recycling company. My current role is global corporate learning director.
When I took over our corporate learning department, we did use Vector Solutions for just safety compliance. So, understanding that from our safety team that I work closely with, I saw a huge gap that we didn’t have a learning management system for any of our custom content or for any other sort of libraries that I found that Vector Solutions provided. So quickly, we saw that as a potential platform to make sure that there was a one stop shop for all of the potential training that our associates would be using, whether it was safety training, some of our custom technical content that my team develops, but also being able to supplement that with the professional library and the industrial maintenance library has really kind of bridged the gap and made sure that we have a lot of different training solutions for our associates. The industrial maintenance library is really filling a gap for us. A lot of that really specific technical content that we would either have to spend months and months developing on our own or buy off of the shelf at an exorbitant cost has really been beneficial for us and we’re in this process of standardizing our maintenance training across all of our sites in the US.
So, to be able to work with our subject matter experts and make sure that we have the content whether it be pneumatics or pumps or any of the other industrial maintenance content. All of our maintenance managers are extraordinarily excited about being able to fill that skill gap. We had one stop shop for our training records. I think previously organizations, our sites, our plants were using Excel or access databases and really going to multiple different places to manually run reports for ISO audits or, customer audits.
So having an ability to mass upload all of our data and our records really reduced the amount of time that our talent management teams were spending in the plants doing manual records. I think we’ve been able to really offer more of a standardized training experience across all of our sites. I think previously it was very siloed, and the sites all had very different methods for doing the training or different training paths. So being able to really do it standardized, we’ve seen a lot of efficiencies in the amount of time people are spending creating training paths or content because we’re able to replicate those best practices across the organization.
And we’re able to see what people across the organization are doing much more easily so that we can either, share it with others or make sure that we’re taking it and including it in our standardized training or paths. So, I’d really recommend Vector Solutions.
