Indiana Law Enforcement Academy Manages Statewide Officer Training Compliance with Acadis

About the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy (ILEA)
The Indiana Law Enforcement Academy (ILEA) serves as both the state’s basic law enforcement training academy and its Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) authority through the Law Enforcement Training Board.
ILEA oversees standards and training for more than 18,000 sworn officers across 600+ agencies statewide, managing the complete training life cycle from academy enrollment through retirement.
The Challenge
Indiana law requires every officer to complete a 15-week basic academy and a minimum of 24 hours of annual in-service training, including mandatory in-person skills training such as firearms, EVO, and defensive tactics.
By statute, an officer’s law enforcement authority is suspended if required training is not completed.
Managing evolving mandates across 18,000 officers with limited staff and fragmented systems created an administrative burden and compliance risk. ILEA needed real-time visibility into officer certification and training status across the state.
“This may have been ignored before, but this is serious business — and we have the tools to track this with Acadis.”

Opportunity
ILEA recognized the need to replace manual processes and disconnected systems with a centralized, authoritative training management platform.
The opportunity was to create a single, hire-to-retire training record for every officer in Indiana, providing immediate insight into compliance and readiness across all agencies.
Goals
ILEA set out to:
- Establish a legally defensible, life-long training record for every officer
- Simplify compliance tracking for complex statutory mandates
- Enable real-time statewide visibility into officer readiness
- Reduce manual, paper-driven administrative processes
- Build a scalable foundation to support future training growth
Solution Deployed
ILEA implemented Acadis, Vector Solutions’ unified readiness platform, to manage officer training and certification statewide.
Acadis supports academy operations, in-service tracking, and real-time compliance reporting across all 18,000 officers.
Leveraging IADLEST National Certification Program (NCP)
As training requirements expanded, course vetting and quality assurance became increasingly complex. With limited staff capacity to review and approve all in-service content, ILEA leverages the IADLEST National Certification Program (NCP) to accept nationally vetted courses that meet rigorous standards.
By leveraging nationally certified content, ILEA reduces internal administrative burden while ensuring high-quality, defensible training content for officers statewide
“We turn a lot of that vetting work over to IADLEST. If a course has already been through their comprehensive review process, that’s a benefit to us and to providers.”

Results
By expanding its use of Acadis beyond academy operations, ILEA has:
- Established a centralized, legally defensible training record for every officer
- Simplified compliance tracking for complex, evolving mandates
- Enabled real-time statewide visibility into officer readiness
- Reduced administrative burden for ILEA staff and local agencies
- Created a scalable system to support long-term officer development
Acadis transformed Indiana’s training compliance from a reactive, paper-driven process into a proactive, centralized system of record.
