Mobile gaming is barely two decades old. It started with casino-owned tablets loaned to guests on property. Then, mobile sportsbook put wagering in players’ pockets, with William Hill and Cantor Gaming launching in Nevada in 2011 and 2012, and PASPA’s repeal in 2018 opening the floodgates. New Jersey launched the first regulated mobile casino in 2013, and a handful of states have followed. Alongside it, the freemium app boom that began in 2008 built social casino into today’s $11 billion casino-style economy, with an ecosystem of players who behave much like brick-and-mortar guests.
On the tribal side, IGT’s Vi on-premise Class II product now lets players wager real money from their phones while visiting the casino. Every one of those channels carries its own rules, its own funding mechanics, and its own regulator. As the mobile universe expands, responsible gaming and compliance move from back-office function to business constraint.
Join Rory Shanahan, GM of Ruby Seven Studios, Bob Akeret, GM of Gamewise, and Charlie Skinner, President of Marker Trax and Koin, for a candid look at where real-money mobile gaming stands in the US and what comes next.
